Multi Level Safety
Multi Level Safety is used in the Dutch National Water plan as central approach for water safety policy. The policy aims for protection against water and at limiting societal disruption caused by flooding. Multi Level Safety is composed of three elements:
- Prevention, the primary pillar
- Sustainable urban planning, to reduce possible consequences of flood
- Emergency management
In Dordrecht, MARE will explore the integration of options within the three elements to achieve an acceptable balance of water safety and attractiveness of the area.
Both themes combine the development of models and procedures and their implementation in demonstration projects across the city. Feedback from these demonstration projects will help to improve the Climate Proofing Framework. The activities and outputs of the project are expressly linked to policy development at local, regional and national levels.
